Welcome to my web site. This site is mainly to function as a repository for the research papers and book chapters that I have published to ensure they are available to people without access to academic libraries. These days I spend a lot of my time in the garden and on my allotment, but I am still actively researching, writing, and occasionally leading workshops or teaching.
Academic Biography
My PhD was on Goethean science and Husserlian phenomenology, which I finished in 1994. I have taught philosophy for over twenty five years mainly teaching environmental philosophy and aesthetics; first at Lancaster University and then the University of Central Lancashire. I was Managing Editor for the journal Environmental Values for many years.
I am a Visiting Research Fellow of Bath Spa University and Deputy Editor of the journal Plant Perspectives an interdisciplinary journal for plant studies
I also have a background in the field of adult education with an MEd awarded in 2010. This was when I shifted my focus by taking up a post as Head of Learning and Teaching at Writtle University College, and later, Faculty Lead at Crossfields Institute in Stroud. I am now an independent scholar and continue to write on phenomenology, plants, landscapes, and Goethe’s approach to nature. But mostly plants.
